MAKKAH: More than 33.8 million iftar meals were distributed at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque during Ramadan 1447 AH, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to serving millions of worshippers who gather at Islam’s holiest sites during the holy month.

The large-scale distribution effort was carried out through a comprehensive and carefully coordinated service system overseen by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.

Authorities designated specific areas within the mosques for iftar meals and implemented strict health and safety standards to ensure that food was distributed efficiently, hygienically, and without disruption to the flow of worshippers.

Special attention was given particularly during peak periods before the Maghrib prayer, when large crowds assemble to break their fast. Volunteers and staff worked in tandem to manage the process smoothly, ensuring that meals reached fasting individuals in an orderly and timely manner despite the high density of visitors.

The initiative reflects a high level of operational planning and coordination in crowd management, logistics, and public service delivery. It also demonstrates the Kingdom’s broader efforts to enhance the overall experience for pilgrims performing Umrah and visiting the holy mosques during Ramadan.

These measures are part of ongoing improvements aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to elevate the quality of services provided to visitors, expand religious tourism, and ensure a safe, organized, and spiritually enriching environment for worshippers from around the world.
