Saudi Project Clears 908 Mines Across Yemen in One Week

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Masam project cleared 908 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen during the second week of March 2026.

The explosive devices removed under the project included three anti-personnel mines, nine anti-tank mines, 890 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

The Project Masam, a humanitarian initiative dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen is being implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).

Masam teams carried out extensive demining operations across several Yemeni governorates to eliminate threats posed by mines and other remnants of war.

In Aden Governorate, the teams successfully dismantled two anti-tank mines, 215 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and two IEDs.

In Al-Khawkhah District of Al-Hudaydah Governorate, they removed one anti-tank mine and seven pieces of unexploded ordnance.

Further clearance operations were conducted in Al-Mukalla District of Hadhramaut Governorate, where teams removed three anti-personnel mines, three anti-tank mines, 513 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and two IEDs.

Additionally, one piece of unexploded ordnance was safely removed from Midi District in Hajjah Governorate.

With these latest efforts, the total number of mines and explosive devices cleared during March has reached 2,171.

Since the launch of Project Masam, a total of 548,123 mines and unexploded devices have been safely removed across Yemen.

Through KSrelief and initiatives like Project Masam, Saudi Arabia continues to play a vital humanitarian role in Yemen by reducing the dangers posed by landmines.

These efforts help protect civilian lives, restore safe access to communities, and support more secure and dignified living conditions for the Yemeni people.
