RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Pakistanis across the country are flocking to markets for Eid shopping as the end of the holy month of Ramadan approaches. In Rawalpindi, one of the largest markets in the city — neighboring the capital Islamabad — is packed with shoppers buying clothes, shoes, and gifts ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
Eid in Pakistan is expected to fall on March 20 or 21, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Markets traditionally stay open late into the night during the final days of Ramadan as families prepare for the festival, which marks the end of a month of fasting from dawn to dusk.
Shoppers browse stalls for new clothes, bangles, shoes and sweets — all part of the celebrations that follow the Eid prayers.
Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important religious festivals for Muslims across the world, when families gather, exchange gifts, and share festive meals.
