RIYADH: Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that its air defences intercepted and destroyed three drones that entered the kingdom’s airspace, as regional tensions continue to rise following strikes involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
A spokesperson for the Saudi defence ministry said the drones were intercepted and destroyed after crossing into Saudi airspace. The announcement was made in a post shared on X.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence Major General Turki Al-Maliki stated that drones were intercepted and destroyed in Eastern Region.

Saudi authorities have reported several drone incidents in recent days. Earlier this week, officials confirmed that drones targeting the strategically important Shaybah oil field were intercepted and destroyed.

The incidents come amid rising regional tensions after Iran warned it could target energy infrastructure across the Middle East following strikes conducted by United States and Israel at the end of last month. Those strikes reportedly killed Iran’s supreme leader and significantly heightened tensions throughout the region.
Since then, retaliatory missile and drone attacks have intensified, raising concerns about the security of maritime trade routes and global energy supplies.
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, through which roughly one-fifth of global crude oil supply passes—has slowed considerably as the conflict continues to escalate.
