RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call on Thursday with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares to discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The two leaders exchanged views on ongoing efforts to address the regional situation and highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation in promoting stability, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The conversation also underscored the need for continued coordination between Riyadh and Madrid on regional security issues, with both sides agreeing on the significance of diplomatic engagement and multilateral approaches to de-escalate conflicts.

Officials noted that the discussion reflected Saudi Arabia’s proactive efforts to maintain peace and security in the region while keeping international partners informed of developments.

Both foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to working together to support stability and prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, the Tensions in the Middle East have centred on the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil normally passes.

Iranian attacks on vessels and shipping infrastructure have severely disrupted maritime traffic in the strategic waterway linking the Gulf to the Arabian Sea.

Trade Nation analyst David Morrison said energy markets had been shaken by attacks on shipping and missile strikes across the region.

“Energy markets have been rattled by news of Iranian attacks on shipping in the Arabian Gulf, along with missiles aimed at countries across the region,” Morrison said.
