KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait International Airport came under a drone attack on Thursday morning when multiple unmanned aerial vehicles targeted the facility, causing limited property damage but no casualties.

According to Kuwait’s General Civil Aviation Authority, emergency protocols were immediately activated following the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the situation was swiftly brought under control and airport operations were managed in line with established safety procedures.

Speaking to Kuwait News Agency, the authority’s spokesperson Abdullah al-Rajhi said the response was carried out under the emergency plan implemented since the beginning of the regional crisis, with close coordination among all relevant national authorities.

He added that the swift response helped contain the situation and ensured the safety of passengers, staff, and airport infrastructure.

Officials continue to monitor developments closely as part of broader efforts to maintain aviation security and public safety.

“The General Civil Aviation Authority has been targeted this morning by several unmanned aircraft. This attack resulted in material damages only, with no human casualties recorded,” Rajhi stated.

Since strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February ignited the wider Middle East conflict, Iran has carried out attacks targeting its regional adversaries and strategic infrastructure.

The escalation has threatened commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply normally passes.

Earlier, a merchant cargo vessel sailing toward India was struck while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, in one of the most serious incidents involving a commercial ship since tensions escalated in the Gulf.

Kuwait has frequently been targeted by Iranian attacks, with its airport and energy facilities among the key infrastructure hit during the ongoing conflicts.

Meanwhile, emergency services in Oman are working to contain a major fire that broke out at fuel storage tanks, while authorities in Bahrain reported that Iranian strikes targeted fuel tanks in the country early Thursday morning local time.

Footage released by the Bahrain National Communication Centre showed firefighters battling towering flames at a fuel depot in Muharraq following the attack.

Authorities also urged residents in four nearby towns and villages to remain indoors and keep their windows closed as emergency teams responded to the incident.
