ISLAMABAD: The countdown to the historic 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) began in spectacular fashion on Wednesday as the league unveiled its stunning “Infinity” trophy at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, a gleaming symbol of cricketing excellence that took 18 artisans over 2,600 hours to complete.

The tournament’s official social media platforms released a captivating 47-second video offering cricket fans a first look at the silverware, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship behind the masterpiece that will soon be lifted by the champions.

Design inspired by national pride and modern elegance

The “Infinity” trophy boasts an elegant and modern design, featuring a tall, sleek golden structure that rises gracefully from a round base. Its central body is adorned with sparkling stones and crystals arranged in mesmerising vertical patterns, giving the trophy a dazzling, glittering appearance when illuminated under stadium lights.

Two curved golden arms extend upward from the sides, meeting near the top in a symbolic embrace that represents the unifying spirit of cricket. However, the most striking feature of the trophy is its crown, a magnificent crescent and star design element inspired directly by Pakistan’s national flag. The crescent is meticulously studded with small crystals, while a polished metallic star sits slightly above it, creating a visually stunning and deeply patriotic centrepiece.

The gold-plated base rests securely on a black cylindrical pedestal that prominently displays the PSL branding, completing a trophy that perfectly balances tradition with contemporary aesthetics.

18 Artisans, 2,600 hours of dedicated craftsmanship

According to the official social media post accompanying the unveiling, the “Infinity” trophy represents an extraordinary labour of love and skill. A total of 18 master artisans collaborated on the project, dedicating an impressive 2,600 hours to bring the design to life. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the trophy is not merely a prize but a work of art that reflects the prestige of the league’s landmark 11th edition.

Eight teams to battle in expanded tournament

The historic 11th edition of the PSL promises to be the most exciting yet, featuring an expanded format with eight teams competing across 44 matches from March 26 to May 3. Two new franchises, Pindiz and Hyderabad Kingsmen, join the original six teams, marking a new era of growth for Pakistan’s premier T20 league.

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars will kick off the tournament on March 26 at their home ground, locking horns with newcomers Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in what promises to be a thrilling opening encounter.

Comprehensive schedule with playoff structure

As per the recently unveiled schedule, each team will play a total of 10 matches in the group stage, with the top four sides qualifying for the playoffs. The knockout stage comprises Qualifier 1, an Eliminator, and Qualifier 2, culminating in the grand final scheduled for May 3 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has wisely allotted a reserve day for the final on May 4, ensuring that weather interruptions do not deprive fans of a deserving champion.

The tournament will also feature six double-headers, with three of these exciting double-bill days taking place at the Gaddafi Stadium, offering fans extended hours of top-class cricketing action.

Cricket reaches new frontiers

In a significant development for Pakistani cricket, the landmark 11th edition will be played across six venues nationwide. Faisalabad and Peshawar are set to host PSL matches for the first time, joining the existing cricketing hubs of Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi in welcoming the festival of cricket. This expansion represents the PCB’s commitment to taking the game to every corner of the country and allowing cricket fans across Pakistan to experience the PSL excitement in their home cities.

As the “Infinity” trophy gleams under the lights at its unveiling ceremony, it stands as a testament to the infinite possibilities and boundless passion that the Pakistan Super League represents for cricket in the nation.
