ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s armed forces have launched ground and air operations against Afghan Taliban along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in the Kurram sector, destroying several terrorist positions, security sources said.

According to officials, the military targeted posts belonging to Afghan Taliban and the terrorist faction Fitna al-Khawarij, using heavy artillery fire during the operation. Several positions were destroyed during the strikes.

Security sources said the operation, code-named Ghazab lil-Haq, is currently underway and will continue until its objectives are achieved.

Officials added that the latest military actions are part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to secure its western border and counter terrorist groups operating from across the frontier.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, on Friday said that 572 Afghan Taliban have been killed in the ongoing military response under Operation Ghazb lil Haq.

He Islamabad continues retaliatory action following cross-border attacks by terrorists and Afghan forces.

In a post on X, Tarar shared an update on March 6 detailing what he described as significant losses inflicted on Afghan Taliban positions inside Afghanistan.

He said more than 755 terrorists have been injured since the start of the operation. He added that security forces have destroyed 237 check posts and captured 38 positions during coordinated ground and aerial engagements.

The update further stated that 205 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces have been destroyed. Additionally, 62 locations across Afghanistan were struck through precision air operations.

Pakistani forces have also destroyed an ammunition depot located across the border during the strikes.

Despite the military escalation, a senior security official emphasised that “Pakistan’s dispute is not with the Afghan people, but with terrorist elements responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil.”

Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that Islamabad has conveyed a clear and single demand to Kabul: that Afghan territory should not be used by terrorist groups to launch attacks against Pakistan.

The Kurram sector, located along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border, has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months as Pakistan intensifies efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent cross-border infiltration.

Security officials said the operation will continue until all identified terrorist positions in the area are neutralised.
