AHMEDABAD, India: A counter-attacking half-century by David Miller rescued South Africa from early trouble and lifted them to 187 for seven against India in their Super Eights clash at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday.
Batting first under lights at the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa recovered from 20-3 inside four overs to post a competitive total, thanks largely to a 97-run stand between Miller and Dewald Brevis.
India strike early
India’s pace spearheads Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh ripped through the top order in the opening exchanges.
Captain Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton all fell cheaply as South Africa stumbled to 20 for three.
With the Proteas under pressure, Miller joined Brevis at the crease and began rebuilding the innings.
Miller–Brevis counter-attack
The pair mounted a brisk recovery, adding 97 runs for the fourth wicket in just 49 deliveries.
Brevis struck 45 off 29 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours.
He was eventually dismissed in the 13th over when Shivam Dube had him caught at deep mid-wicket by Abhishek Sharma.
Miller continued to press the attack.
He added 35 runs for the fifth wicket with Tristan Stubbs before falling to Varun Chakravarthy in the 16th over.
Miller top-scored with 63 off 35 balls, including seven fours and three sixes.
His dismissal slowed South Africa’s momentum as India tightened their grip in the final overs.
Late push from Stubbs
Arshdeep Singh removed Marco Jansen for two in the 18th over, further checking South Africa’s surge.
Stubbs, however, batted through to the end.
He finished unbeaten on 44 from 24 deliveries, striking three sixes and a four to guide South Africa to 187-7 in their 20 overs.
Bumrah led India’s bowling effort with three wickets for 15 runs in four overs.
Arshdeep claimed two wickets, while Chakravarthy and Dube picked up one apiece.
