T20 World Cup: Eliminated Australia Elect to Bowl First Against Oman

KANDY, Sri Lanka: Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first against Oman on Friday at Pallekele International Stadium, in what serves as the final fixture before the Super Eights begin on Saturday.

With Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka securing the top two spots in Group B to advance to the Super Eight, both Australia and Oman have already bAustralia Namibiaeen eliminated from the T20 World Cup.

For the first time since 2009, Australia have been eliminated at the group stage of a global tournament.

Rather than flying home with tails tucked between legs, they were forced to front up against Oman in a dead rubber that carried only the threat of further embarrassment.

Australia have never lost to an Associate nation in T20Is, though Oman pushed them close in their only prior meeting at the 2024 World Cup.

Pitch and Conditions

The Pallekele pitch has been good for batting in both matches so far.

Dew was a significant factor in Sri Lanka’s successful chase of 182 against Australia.

Rain is forecast during the day but should clear by match start, with humidity expected to be high.
