WASHINGTON: Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, has reaffirmed the Kingdom’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people during a ministerial session of the UN Security Council on developments in the Middle East.

During his address, Ambassador Alwasil condemned the Israeli authorities’ designation of lands in the West Bank as “state land,” describing the move as a serious breach of international law and a violation of relevant UN resolutions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

He stressed that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories and warned that such unilateral measures undermine prospects for peace and stability in the region.

The ambassador reiterated the Kingdom’s consistent position in favour of a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, emphasising the importance of achieving a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

He underscored that a lasting settlement must ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international legitimacy.

Alwasil also called for the protection of humanitarian organisations and the facilitation of safe and unimpeded delivery of aid, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He highlighted the Kingdom’s participation in the February 19, 2026, peace council meeting, stressing the need to preserve the unity of Palestinian territory and to secure an immediate end to the war in Gaza.
