DELHI: South Africa restricted the United Arab Emirates to a modest 122 for 6 in 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bowl in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group D clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

After choosing to field first, the Proteas bowlers struck regularly and kept the UAE batters in check throughout the innings. The Emirates openers showed early intent, with Aryansh Sharma contributing 38 off 27 balls before being dismissed by South Africa’s pace attack. However, frequent breakthroughs prevented any sizeable partnerships from developing.

The UAE middle order struggled to build momentum against disciplined bowling spells. Despite some resistance, the hosts never looked in strong control of the innings, finishing on 122/6 — a total that South Africa will happily chase under Delhi conditions.

South Africa’s tactical decision to bowl first was vindicated by early strikes and tight containment, forcing the UAE into defensive strokes and low run rates. With the ball spared and the pitch expected to flatten out later, the Proteas will be confident of a comfortable chase and a further boost to their already strong World Cup campaign.
