LONDON: A 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in southeast London, prompting a murder investigation, police said on Sunday.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police launched the probe following the attack in Peckham Rye on Saturday evening.

Officers responded to reports of an assault on Rye Lane, near the junction of Heaton Road, at 7:09 pm local time (1909 GMT). The teenager was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where he later died.

“No arrests have been made at this early stage,” police said in a statement.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron urged anyone with information to come forward.

“No one should lose their life because of knife crime,” Cameron said.

Investigations remain ongoing.
