ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Syria have agreed to enhance mutual cooperation to provide maximum facilities to pilgrims visiting the shrine of Hazrat Bibi Zainab (RA).
The consensus was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the custodian of the shrine of Hazrat Bibi Zainab (RA) from Syria, along with a delegation in Islamabad on Saturday, said a press release issued by the Interior Ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, the Interior Minister highlighted the deep reverence for Hazrat Bibi Zainab (RA) in the hearts of the Muslim Ummah, noting that hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis travel to Syria annually for pilgrimage.
He emphasised that through joint arrangements and coordinated efforts, greater ease and convenience can be ensured for the pilgrims, streamlining the travel experience and enhancing their spiritual journey.
The Syrian delegation extended a formal invitation to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to visit Syria, signaling a desire to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The delegation included Dr. Mazen Hani, Dr. Azmat Hussain, and Professor Noor Zaidi.
Relations between Pakistan and Syria have traditionally been cordial, marked by mutual support at international forums and cooperation within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Pakistan has consistently emphasized Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict.
Although bilateral trade remains limited, both countries have expressed interest in expanding cooperation in areas such as diplomacy, education, and humanitarian support. High-level engagements and multilateral interactions continue to provide avenues for strengthening ties between Islamabad and Damascus.
