ISLAMABAD: United States Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan, Natalie A. Baker, hosted a webinar linking representatives from 25 American information and communication technology (ICT) firms with senior Pakistani government officials to explore expanding opportunities in the country’s fast-growing IT sector.
According to a press release issued by the United States Embassy in Islamabad on Saturday, the virtual session brought together key stakeholders to discuss investment prospects, regulatory frameworks, and avenues for strategic partnerships within Pakistan’s digital economy.
Senior Pakistani officials participated in the discussion, underscoring Islamabad’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment for foreign investors and strengthening collaboration in high-growth technology sectors.
The initiative reflects Washington’s broader efforts to deepen economic ties with Pakistan, particularly in areas such as outsourcing, innovation, and digital services.
In her remarks, Baker reaffirmed the US mission’s dedication to strengthening bilateral economic relations. She noted that closer cooperation could unlock new opportunities for American companies while contributing to Pakistan’s economic development.
She also emphasised that the US embassy and consulates stand ready to assist American firms by connecting them with local partners and providing essential market insights.
The webinar spotlighted emerging opportunities in cloud computing, data centers, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence — sectors in which US companies have established global expertise. Pakistani officials, in turn, outlined government initiatives aimed at expanding broadband access, developing technology parks, and introducing regulatory reforms and investment incentives to accelerate digital transformation.
Baker also highlighted the broader significance of enhanced technology collaboration, noting that the United States is marking its 250th anniversary this year — a milestone celebrating American innovation and leadership. She described the moment as an opportunity to reinforce partnerships with growing markets like Pakistan.
The event formed part of the “Direct Line” for American Businesses programme, an initiative designed to give US companies direct access to foreign government officials and market experts, helping them navigate international markets and pursue informed investment decisions.
