ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Oman by 100 runs and secure their second consecutive win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Set a daunting target of 226, Oman were limited to 120-9 in their allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Nadeem led the resistance with a patient 53 from 56 balls, striking three fours and a six. Wasim Ali added a brisk 27 off 20 deliveries, including three sixes, but the remainder of the batting unit struggled to build momentum.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintained firm control throughout the innings. Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana claimed two wickets apiece, while Dunith Wellalage, Dushan Hemantha and Kamindu Mendis took one each.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted an imposing 225-5 after electing to bat. Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a fluent 61 off 45 balls, supported by Pavan Rathnayake, who struck a rapid 60 from just 28 deliveries to register his maiden T20I half-century. The pair shared a crucial 94-run stand to stabilise the innings after early setbacks.
Captain Dasun Shanaka then accelerated with a blistering 50 off 20 balls, featuring five sixes, before Kamindu Mendis provided late impetus with an unbeaten 19 off seven balls.
The comprehensive victory keeps Sri Lanka in strong form ahead of their next clash against Australia on February 16.
