ISLAMABAD: The United States have drafted Pakistan-born fast bowler Ehsan Adil into their squad as a replacement for Jasdeep Singh ahead of their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Pakistan, scheduled to take place in Colombo on Sunday.
Adil’s inclusion was approved by the Event Technical Committee (ETC) of the tournament after Jasdeep was sidelined with a right shoulder injury sustained during a warm-up match against New Zealand on February 5. Approval from the ETC is mandatory for all squad replacements during the competition.
The experienced pacer has previously represented Pakistan at the highest level, featuring in three Test matches and six One-Day Internationals. Although he is yet to make his international debut for the USA, Adil was added to the squad following the committee’s clearance.
World Cup campaign
The ETC consists of ICC General Manager of Cricket Wasim Khan, IBC representative Gaurav Saxena, host representative Hemang Amin, and former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock as an independent member.
Meanwhile, the USA began their World Cup campaign with a 29-run loss to India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. India skipper Suryakumar Yadav led from the front with a commanding unbeaten 84 off 49 deliveries, guiding his side to 161/9 after being asked to bat first.
In reply, the USA were reduced to 13/3 early on but recovered through a fourth-wicket partnership between Milind Kumar and Sanjay Krishnamurthi. Despite their resistance, the chase faltered, with Mohammed Siraj claiming 3/29 to seal India’s victory.
