ISLAMABAD: Foreign Ministers of eight Muslim nations on Monday condemned repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Gaza, reaffirming that Tel Aviv has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory.

In a joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, denounced ‘illegal Israeli decisions’ and measures aimed at imposing unlawful Israeli sovereignty, entrenching settlement activity, and enforcing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank.

They added that Israel is accelerating attempts at its illegal annexation and the displacement of the Palestinian people.

It is pertinent to mention that since the ceasefire came into effect in early October, Israeli attacks have killed 576 Palestinians and injured 1,543 others, the Gaza media office said.

“The ministers warned against the continued expansionist Israeli policies and illegal measures pursued by the Israeli government in the occupied West Bank, which fuel violence and conflict in the region,” the statement added.

Flagrant violation of international law

They strongly condemned these illegal actions, affirming their absolute rejection of measures that constitute a flagrant violation of international law.

Such actions undermine the two-state solution, infringe upon the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent and sovereign state along the 4 June 1967 lines with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, and jeopardise ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

Breach of UN Security Council resolutions

They affirmed that these unlawful measures in the occupied West Bank are null and void and represent a clear breach of United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and legal status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

They also recalled the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which concluded that Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territory, as well as its continued presence therein, are illegal, affirmed the necessity of ending the occupation, and confirmed the nullity of the annexation of occupied Palestinian lands.

The ministers renewed their call on the international community to uphold its legal and moral obligations and to compel Israel to halt its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, as well as the inciting statements made by its officials.

Palestinians right to self-determination

They emphasised that the realisation of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights to self-determination and statehood, based on the two-state solution in accordance with relevant international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, remains the only viable path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.

The statement comes as Israel’s security cabinet approved a series of measures on Sunday designed to simplify land purchases by settlers in the West Bank and strengthen enforcement capabilities for Israeli authorities.

The West Bank is part of the territories Palestinians seek for a future independent state. Much of the area remains under Israeli military control.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responded by calling the measures dangerous and illegal, suggesting they could amount to de-facto annexation.

Israel’s new measures come three ‍days before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to ‍meet in Washington with US President Donald Trump.
