QUETTA: Security forces in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan have intensified clearance operations, resulting in the deaths of 197 terrorists, officials said, as they continue “mop-up” actions in Nushki district and surrounding areas.

The operations follow a series of coordinated attacks across the province last Saturday, during which armed assailants targeted multiple government facilities in Nushki, including a police station, judicial complex, police lines, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and an FC camp, setting some buildings ablaze.

While the town of Nushki has been cleared and its markets reopened after three days, search operations are ongoing in the district’s mountainous regions. Authorities reported that at least four more terrorists were killed in the latest clearance actions.

Balochistan police chief Mohammad Tahir paid tribute to officers and personnel killed in counterterrorism operations, praising their sacrifice in the fight against militancy.

During visits to several police facilities, Tahir reviewed security arrangements and operational readiness, commending personnel for their professionalism, dedication, and morale.

He said the provincial police force remained on high alert and fully prepared to protect lives and property, reaffirming its commitment to swift action against what he described as anti-state elements. Tahir also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise the force and strengthen its operational capacity.

Chinese condemnation

In a show of international solidarity, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian condemned the recent attacks, expressing Beijing’s unwavering support for Pakistan in combating terrorism.

“We mourn for the lives lost, and our hearts go out to the injured and those who lost their loved ones,” Lin said during a press briefing, underscoring China’s opposition to all forms of terrorism and commitment to maintaining social stability and public safety in Pakistan.

The Chinese embassy in Pakistan also released a statement via social media, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
