ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced it will constitute an independent panel to oversee the retention of Multan Sultans’ players ahead of the historic Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 auction, scheduled for February 11.

According to details, the panel will be responsible for retaining four players from each category from the franchise’s existing squad, in line with newly introduced retention guidelines. The move is aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness as the league prepares for its first-ever player auction format.

Meanwhile, the PCB has formally invited bids for the ownership rights of Multan Sultans, issuing an advertisement earlier this month to attract potential investors. Following the sale of the franchise, the new owners and management will take charge of selecting the remaining squad during the auction process.

Overseas players

The board also clarified that the retention categories of overseas players will be finalised after completion of the auction registration process.

Foreign cricketers who featured in the previous season will have their retention category determined based on their base price at registration, though franchises and players may mutually agree to adjust categories.

PSL 11 will mark a major milestone for the tournament as it expands from six to eight teams, with Hyderabad and Sialkot Stallionz joining as new franchises.

The PCB has already announced player base prices ahead of the auction, set at PKR 4.2 crore, PKR 2.2 crore, PKR 1.1 crore and PKR 60 lakh. Minimum bid increments have also been outlined, providing franchises with a structured valuation framework for the upcoming auction.
