ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has successfully rescued a Sri Lankan sailor during a search-and-rescue operation in the Indian Ocean, reaffirming its role as a responsible maritime force committed to safeguarding lives at sea.

According to official sources, the rescue was carried out after the Pakistan Navy received information about a sailor in distress during routine maritime surveillance. A naval unit operating in the area was immediately diverted and located the stranded individual, who was safely recovered and provided medical assistance onboard.

The sailor was later handed over through established coordination channels for repatriation, in line with international maritime protocols. The operation was conducted in close cooperation with relevant regional maritime authorities, underscoring Pakistan’s adherence to international obligations on search and rescue at sea.

Naval officials said such operations reflect Pakistan Navy’s continued efforts to promote safety and security across vital sea lanes of the Indian Ocean, which are used extensively by regional and international shipping.

The rescue also renews Pakistan’s broader commitment to humanitarian assistance and regional cooperation, regardless of nationality, in line with international maritime conventions and long-standing naval practice.
