ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Monday emphasized the need for an inclusive political framework in Afghanistan while urging “visible and verifiable” measures to dismantle all terrorist organisations operating from Afghan territory.

The joint statement, issued after the seventh round of the Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Beijing, highlighted both countries’ commitment to regional stability, development, and cooperation with the international community to prevent Afghanistan from being used as a base for attacks against other nations.

“Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on Afghanistan, working with the international community to encourage the Afghan government to establish an inclusive political framework, pursue moderate policies, prioritize development, foster good-neighborly relations, and play a constructive role in achieving stability and international integration,” the statement said.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi represented their countries in the dialogue.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close communication and coordination on the Afghan issue and emphasized the importance of encouraging the Afghan government to adopt an inclusive political framework, moderate policies, and a development-focused agenda.

“The two sides called for more visible and verifiable actions to dismantle and eliminate all terrorist organizations based in Afghanistan, which continue to pose serious threats to regional and global security, and prevent terrorist organizations from using the Afghan territory for terrorism against any other country and to endanger any other country,” said the statement.

Both countries reiterated their commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms with zero tolerance and agreed to deepen comprehensive cooperation on counter-terrorism and security. The communique also highlighted the need to ensure that China-Pakistan Belt and Road cooperation proceeds in a safe and secure environment.

Calling on the international community to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation, Pakistan and China expressed firm opposition to double standards in counter-terrorism efforts. They also emphasized the continued use of multilateral platforms, including the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral foreign ministers’ dialogue and the China-Bangladesh-Pakistan cooperation mechanism, to achieve tangible outcomes for regional peace and stability.
