DUBAI: Pakistan’s Olympic javelin gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has been awarded the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award in the ‘Global Breakthrough Athlete’ category at the World Sports Summit in Dubai, in recognition of his record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics.
Nadeem was recognized for his phenomenal, record-shattering performance at the Paris Olympics, where his gold-medal throw of 92.97 metres established a new world and Olympic record.
The award commemorates Nadeem’s historic achievement, which not only broke a 16-year-old record held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen but also secured Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold in javelin throw.

“International recognition would help inspire young athletes and bring greater attention to javelin throw in the country,” he stated.
Fuel for Future Gold Missions
The champion athlete revealed that this global recognition has strengthened his resolve for future competitions.
Nadeem declared his next targets are gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
“The encouragement I have received here strengthens an athlete’s belief. Confidence and motivation are what a sportsman needs most,” he told the media on the sidelines of the summit.
He emphasised that he would begin formal training in January with the explicit goal of winning, not just participating.
Platform for Global Sporting Excellence
Established in 2008, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award celebrates outstanding contributions to sports worldwide.
Nadeem was the sole Pakistani athlete represented at this year’s prestigious summit, which brings together leading figures from the global sports industry.
His presence on this platform underscores his arrival as a world-class sporting icon and brings significant pride to Pakistan.
