Pakistan, Qatar Pledge to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday met with Qatar’s Military Attaché, Brigadier General Abdulhadi Mohammed Arhaib Al-Hajri, to discuss matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations in defence and other sectors.

According to a spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence, the meeting focused on strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Qatar.

Khawaja Asif highlighted Qatar’s significant role in the region and stressed that relations between the two countries are founded on mutual respect.

The spokesperson added that both sides agreed to expand defence cooperation through joint military exercises and training programmes. The Defence Minister also noted that Pakistani military institutions are prepared to provide training facilities for Qatari forces.

During the meeting, the Qatari military attaché expressed satisfaction with the current level of defence collaboration between the two nations.

It is pertinent to mention that last month, Pakistan and Qatar reaffirmed their resolve to deepen their strategic partnership, with a special focus on defence and security cooperation.

Pakistan shares cordial ties with Qatar, rooted in economic cooperation, defence, shared values, faith, and culture. Qatar hosts a large Pakistani workforce.
