ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to roll out an AI-based application as a pilot project in Islamabad starting in January to curb illegal immigration and prevent attempts to travel abroad using fake documents.

The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, attended by senior officials from the Interior Ministry, FIA, NADRA, and the Passport and Immigration Department.

The Interior Minister said that a crackdown has also been launched against agent mafia involved in the business of fake visas, Radio Pakistan reported on Friday.  He said a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted, and those involved will face legal action.

He added the government will also ensure that deported people do not get visas again after their passports are cancelled.

In his remarks, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis will provide all possible cooperation to the Ministry of Interior for the improvement of the immigration system.

He added that Pakistan is in contact with eight countries to improve the ranking of green passports, stressing that fake travellers damage Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
