ISLAMABAD: Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has come to the football superstar’s defence after critics targeted him for visiting US President Donald Trump at White House this week.

In an Instagram post, Aveiro called out those criticizing Ronaldo, saying football “does not follow any political party or ideology” and accusing his detractors of making a fuss over nothing.

“You’re all just hypocrites,” Aveiro wrote. “Cristiano hasn’t joined any party or ideology—he’s just worked hard, something many of his opponents don’t understand. He built a career that no show or ‘expert’ could ever replicate. And yet, you made a huge fuss just because he went to the White House. Hypocrites, that’s what you are.”

She added, “Do you really think a 40-year-old man who’s carried Portugal on his shoulders for over 20 years, escaped poverty, and built an empire without stealing from anyone is going to care about what certain so-called ‘professionals’ say?”

Ronaldo joined the Saudi delegation in the United States and had dinner with US President Donald Trump. Trump shared that his son, Barron, is a big fan of Ronaldo and even got to meet the football icon.

This marked Ronaldo’s first visit to the US since 2016, when he travelled with Real Madrid for a pre-season tour.
