FAISALABAD, Pakistan: South Africa’s rising star, Nqabayomzi Peter, has made an indelible mark on ODI cricket with a historic performance in the second match against Pakistan at Iqbal Stadium on Thursday.

In a feat never seen before in the 50-over format, Peter became the first bowler in ODI history to take three caught and bowled dismissals in a single innings, leaving Pakistan’s batting line-up reeling.

At just 23 years old, Peter’s exceptional spell of 3/55 from eight overs was the highlight of his career so far, with all three of his wickets coming from balls he caught off his own bowling.

Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, and Shaheen Shah Afridi were all sent packing after mistiming their shots, only to see the ball loop back into Peter’s hands for a simple catch.

Peter’s remarkable ability to make quick, clean dismissals of Pakistan’s middle order was a testament to his sharp reflexes and deceptive spin.

Even in the final stages of his spell, when he bowled his last over for 22 runs, Peter’s control and poise stood out, proving that he could fight till the very end.

The caught and bowled phenomenon didn’t end with Peter’s magic, however. Four Pakistani batsmen were dismissed in this manner during the match, marking only the second instance of such a rare event in ODI history.

In addition to Peter’s three scalps, Saim Ayub was also caught and bowled, further intensifying the drama and showing just how dominant Peter and South Africa were with the ball.
