ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to boost cooperation with Turkiye in the fields of security, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, police training, disaster management, trade, and economic development.
PM Sharif expressed the remarks during a meeting with Ali Yerlikaya, Turkiye’s Interior Minister, who visited Islamabad on Thursday, Radio Pakistan reported.
The Prime Minister praised Turkiye’s strong and unwavering support for Pakistan’s positions on key issues, and he specifically thanked Turkish leadership for facilitating the ongoing peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Istanbul.
Highlighting the deep fraternal ties between Pakistan and Turkiye, he also conveyed his warm regards and greetings to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Turkish Interior Minister thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He conveyed greetings for the Prime Minister from President Erdogan and expressed Turkiye’s strong desire for enhanced collaboration in law enforcement, intelligence-sharing, and disaster management.
Turkiye and Pakistan enjoy cordial relations with one another that have expanded to cooperation in several sectors between the two nations.
Ankara publicly supported Islamabad during its four-day skirmish with India in May. Their military forces have since committed to forging stronger ties in defence and trade amid regional tensions.
In July, Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defence Minister Yasar Güler visited Pakistan for high-level talks with political and military leaders.
Islamabad’s foreign office described the visit as a sign of “deepening strategic ties” with Ankara and noted that discussions covered regional stability, trade expansion, and defence modernisation.
