ISLAMABAD: Pakistan resume the second day of the Rawalpindi Test against South Africa on a solid 259 for 5, after a commanding start on Day 1.

Captain Shan Masood’s fluent 87 and Abdullah Shafique’s composed 57 anchored the innings, putting the hosts in a strong position to build a sizable first-innings total in the second Test of the two-match series.

Pakistan benefited from several missed chances, with South Africa dropping five catches on a pitch expected to offer turn as the match progresses.

For South Africa, spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj each claimed two wickets, exploiting the surface’s growing assistance for slow bowlers. The Proteas, trailing 1–0 in the two-match series after their 93-run defeat in Lahore, will look to bounce back and level the series.

Pakistan will aim to build on their solid platform and post a commanding total in the first innings, while South Africa will hope for early breakthroughs on Day 2 to regain control. With spin expected to play an increasing role, both sides will need tactical discipline in what promises to be another gripping contest.
