Islamic States Want United Stance on Key Issues at UN General Assembly

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, met with the Ministers of Islamic states in New York

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met counterparts from Islamic states in New York on Monday and exchanged views and coordinated positions for a unified approach on some of the key issues at the UN General Assembly session.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the Deputy PM participated in consultations hosted by the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in New York today.

“Other participants included the Deputy Prime Ministers of Jordan and UAE, and Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye,” it said.

It further said that Ishaq Dar underscored the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that existed between Pakistan and Islamic countries.

According to the statement, during the meeting, the Deputy PM recalled that the people of Pakistan had a great affinity for their Muslim brethren in the Middle East and would support all constructive endeavours aimed at fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar in a post on X said, “We all exchanged views and deliberated the coordinated positions for a unified approach on some of the key current global issues at the UN General Assembly Session.”

Pakistan’s Commitment to Commonwealth

According to another statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Deputy Prime Minister participated in the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) held at UN Headquarters, New York, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.

In his remarks, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Commonwealth, emphasizing its role as a platform for dialogue, consensus-building, and cooperation in addressing overlapping global crises. He welcomed efforts to reorient the organisation to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

He highlighted Pakistan’s leadership on youth empowerment within the Commonwealth and underscored the importance of building climate resilience, promoting digital transformation, and advancing the Connectivity Agenda to strengthen trade and supply chain links across the 56-member family of nations.

Ishaq Dar reached New York on Sunday to attend the high-level segment of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly from September 22-26.

The Pakistan delegation will be led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is scheduled to arrive here on Monday afternoon.

On his arrival on Sunday night, FM Dar was received by Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States Rizwan Saeed Shiekh, and senior officials of the mission.
