JOHANNESBURG: Wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock has reversed his decision to retire from one-day internationals after being named in South Africa’s squads for the upcoming tour of Pakistan, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Monday.

De Kock, 31, had bowed out of the ODI format after the 2023 World Cup and last featured for his country in the T20 World Cup final in 2024. His return marks a major boost for South Africa’s white-ball set-up, head coach Shukri Conrad said.

“Quinton’s return to the white-ball space is a major boost for us,” Conrad said. “When we spoke last month about his future, it was clear he still has a strong ambition to represent his country. Everyone knows the quality he brings, and having him back can only benefit the team.”

Bavuma Sidelined, Markram to Lead in Tests

The Test side will be without regular captain Temba Bavuma, who has been ruled out of the tour with a calf strain. Aiden Markram will lead the side in his absence when the two-Test series begins on 12 October in Lahore.

“Naturally, we are disappointed not to have Temba available,” Conrad added. “He has been such an important leader and batter for us in the Test side, and his presence on and off the field will be missed.”

Captains for ODIs and T20Is

Cricket South Africa confirmed Matthew Breetzke as captain for the ODI squad, while veteran David Miller will take charge of the T20I side. De Kock has been included in both formats.

South Africa will carry four spin options on tour. Keshav Maharaj, still recovering from a groin injury, will only be available from the second Test, while Simon Harmer, Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayan have also been named.

Tour Fixtures Confirmed

South Africa’s month-long tour of Pakistan will span all three formats, beginning with a two-Test series that launches Pakistan’s new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

The first Test will be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from 12 to 16 October, followed by the second in Rawalpindi from 20 to 24 October.

A three-match T20I series will follow, starting in Rawalpindi on 28 October, with the remaining matches scheduled for Lahore on 31 October and 1 November.

The tour will conclude with three ODIs in Faisalabad from 4 to 8 November.
