KEY POINTS

  • Google makes Gemini Live screensharing free for all Android users.
  • Users can share screens or use live camera for real-time assistance.
  • Rollout begins immediately via the Gemini app, expanding in coming weeks.
  • Move comes as Microsoft launches rival free AI tool, Copilot Vision.

SAN FRANCISCO: Google has announced that its Gemini Live screensharing feature will now be available for free to all Android users, removing an earlier requirement for a Gemini Advanced subscription.

The AI-powered tool allows users to share their phone screen or camera feed in real time during conversations with Gemini Live, enabling interactive assistance with tasks ranging from troubleshooting to information searches.

The feature, initially launched in March, was first restricted to paying subscribers using Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices.

However, following positive user feedback, Google has opted to roll out the tool across all Android devices through the Gemini app.

“We’ve been hearing great feedback on Gemini Live with camera and screen share, so we decided to bring it to more people,” the official Gemini App account posted on X.

“Starting today and over the coming weeks, we’re rolling it out to all Android users with the Gemini app.”

Gemini Live lets users either point their smartphone camera at objects, such as clothing, artwork, or household devices, and ask questions in real time, or share their screen to seek assistance with apps, websites, or technical issues. Google has promoted use cases ranging from aquarium visits to home internet troubleshooting.

The announcement comes as Microsoft unveiled its own free AI tool, Copilot Vision, integrated into its Edge browser, underscoring intensifying competition between tech giants in the rapidly evolving AI assistant market.

The launch also follows Google’s broader updates to Gemini unveiled at its Cloud Next event last week, including the introduction of Gemini 2.5 Flash, new Workspace tools, and advanced “agentic AI” capabilities.

The rollout of Gemini Live’s free screensharing feature begins immediately, with full availability expected over the coming weeks.
