ISLAMABAD: Renowned Kashmiri freedom leader and former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, passed away on Wednesday in the Botingo area of Sopore in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He was 90. According to Kashmir Media Service, Professor Bhat also served as chairman of the Muslim Conference in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He held graduate degrees in Persian, Economics, and Political Science, completed a master’s in Persian, and earned a law degree from Aligarh Muslim University.
He also worked as a professor of Persian until he was dismissed by the occupation authorities due to his pro-freedom stance.
Throughout his life, Bhat remained dedicated to the cause of Kashmir’s right to self-determination. His visionary leadership, unwavering courage, and political insight made him a prominent figure and source of inspiration for the Kashmiri people.
His passing represents a significant loss—not only for Kashmir but also for the wider struggle for freedom and justice.
President Zardari expresses grief
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed grief over the passing of Kashmiri leader Abdul Ghani Bhat.
He said that Abdul Ghani Bhat’s struggle is a beacon of hope for the people of occupied Kashmir. His sacrifices will be remembered in history with golden words, the President added.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to grant him the highest place in Jannah and patience to the bereaved family.
