ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the State of Palestine have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation in the health sector, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Health Services on Wednesday.
On behalf of Pakistan, Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, signed the agreement, while the Ambassador of Palestine signed on behalf of his government.
This agreement reflects the strong and longstanding relationship between the two nations. Pakistan is among the few countries that officially recognise the State of Palestine and has consistently voiced its support for the Palestinian cause at various international platforms.
In addition to its diplomatic backing, Pakistan regularly provides humanitarian assistance to Gaza, where Israeli military operations continue. The MoU marks another step in strengthening the brotherly ties between the two countries.
Highlighting the details of the agreement, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said that a Pakistan-Palestine Health Working Group will be established within the next 30 days to oversee the implementation of the agreement and provide guidance for practical collaboration.
The Minister said that special focus will be placed on enhancing capacity in advanced medical fields, including Interventional Cardiology, Organ Transplant, Orthopedic Surgery, Endoscopic Ultrasound, Burn and Plastic Surgery.
He further added that joint efforts will also be pursued in the fields of infectious diseases, ophthalmology, and pharmaceuticals, while opportunities for collaborative research will be explored.
