LONDON: A British lawmaker has asked the High Court to order Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI to stop its chatbot Grok from generating non-consensual sexualised images of her, in a case that could test how privacy and data protection laws apply to AI developers.
Jess Asato, a member of the governing Labour Party, filed legal action after fake sexualised images and videos of her were created using Grok following her public criticism of Musk and the AI platform.
The lawsuit accuses xAI of misuse of private information and breaches of UK data protection laws. Asato is seeking a court order requiring the company to introduce permanent technical safeguards preventing Grok from creating manipulated images of her.
Her legal team argues the case could set an important precedent by establishing that AI developers can be held responsible for how their systems are designed and trained.

Court filings cited internal prompts instructing Grok not to assist criminal activity, while also stating there were no restrictions on adult sexual or offensive content. Asato’s lawyers contend those design choices enabled the creation of harmful material.
xAI has not yet responded to the allegations or filed a defence in the case.
The lawsuit comes as Grok faces increasing scrutiny in several countries over its ability to generate sexualised images without consent. Reuters previously reported that the chatbot continued producing such content even after xAI introduced restrictions earlier this year.
The case adds to growing legal and regulatory pressure on AI companies over image generation, online safety and privacy protections.
