ISLAMABAD: The final message of Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, who was killed along with four colleagues in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, was released posthumously on his official X (formerly Twitter) account early Monday morning.

“This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice,” the post began.

Al-Sharif, who had reported extensively from the frontlines of Gaza, expressed in the message that he gave “every effort and all [his] strength to be a support and a voice” for his people, recounting a life shaped by hardship in the Jabalia refugee camp.

Lifelong commitment to journalism

He lamented not living to return to his family’s ancestral home in occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal), noting: “But Allah’s will came first, and His decree is final.”

The statement reflects Al-Sharif’s lifelong commitment to journalism and advocacy, as he declared, “I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification.” He condemned silence in the face of the “massacre that our people have faced for more than a year and a half,” referring to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

In deeply personal passages, Al-Sharif entrusted the world with the care of his family, including his daughter Sham, son Salah, his mother, and his wife Bayan (Umm Salah), writing: “I urge you to stand by them, to be their support after Allah Almighty.”

“Do not forget Gaza”

He ended the message with a prayer: “O Allah, accept me among the martyrs… and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my family.”

“Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance,” the post concluded.

The message was signed: “Anas Jamal Al-Sharif 06.04.2025.”
