TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday said that the Iranian nation will never surrender to ‘any form of imposition.’

In a televised message, he said that Israel made a ‘huge mistake and would be punished for that.

He made the remarks after US President Donald Trump threatened Iran over its nuclear and missile programmes.

“People will not forget the blood of ‘martyrs’ and the attack on their territory,” his statement added.

The Supreme Leader also warned that any US strike will have ‘serious irreparable consequences.’

“Iran will not accept an imposed peace or war,” Khamenei said, adding those who ‘know Iran’s history know that Iranians do not answer well to the language of threat.’

He added that the Iranian nation will stand firm in the face of both imposed war and imposed peace.

“Those with wisdom, who truly understand Iran, its people, and its long history, never speak to this nation with the language of threats. Iran will not yield,” he asserted.

Iran and Israel said on Wednesday they carried out strikes on various targets on each other’s territories as the foes traded attacks for a sixth straight day.

The development unfolds as the region anxiously braces for a potentially wider and ruinous conflict.

Early on Wednesday, the Israeli military said new waves of missiles had been launched from Iran. Israeli media outlets reported that the latest salvos triggered sirens across the entire country, including the Tel Aviv area, where explosions and fires were reported.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have used first-generation Fateh missiles during its early Wednesday morning attacks on Israel, according to an IRGC statement shared across Iranian media.

The attacks, according to the IRGC, showed that Iran had “gained complete control over the skies of the occupied territory.”
