ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistani athletes, Faisal Shafi and Danish Elahi, have made history at the world’s oldest Boston Marathon by setting a remarkable world record – completing the race in the fastest time ever while wearing traditional shalwar kameez.

Hailing from Karachi, the pair finished the 26.2-mile marathon in three hours and 26 minutes, making them the first runners to complete the prestigious event in under four hours while donning Pakistan’s national attire.

Guinness World Records recognition

The Boston Marathon, first held in 1897, is one of the world’s most esteemed long-distance running events.

The duo’s unique choice of attire and their synchronised finish turned heads, merging cultural pride with impressive athleticism.

While there is no official marathon category for traditional dress, Guinness World Records has recognised their effort as a world record.

Their feat has been widely acknowledged as groundbreaking, with fellow runners commending the blend of sportsmanship and national identity.

Upon returning to Pakistan, Shafi and Elahi intend to celebrate their success and share their inspiring journey with supporters across the country.
