ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has said that US President Donald Trump opposes traditional war, adding “he does not oppose trade war”.
PPP’s official social media account shared a post in which President Zardari said, “Trump opposes traditional war but supports trade war”.
Trade war
He said, “Again today’s world is at a trade war, yes there are no wars. Trump is against war but at the same time not against the trade war”.
Talking about Gwadar port, President Zardari said, “Gwadar port came at a handy time”.
Radio Pakistan reported that the president said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port would play a significant role in promoting regional trade and prosperity.
President Zardari says options are being explored to bring water from Tajikistan to Balochistan and feasibility study has been completed with the support of UAE government in this regard, according to Radio Pakistan.
Significant opportunities
He said this while speaking at the closing session of the International Conference on “Regional Connectivity and Pakistan: Emerging Opportunities”, in Islamabad.
Zardari said that Pakistan’s strategic location offered significant opportunities to enhance regional trade, terming the country as a “natural trade corridor” linking China, Central Asia, and the Middle East, Radio Pakistan reported.
He said that CPEC and Gwadar would bring dividends for our future generations and emphasised the importance of revitalizing historic trade routes to further strengthen economic and cultural ties across the region.
