ISLAMABAD: Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) Annual Media Festival was held by the department of Bachelor of Media Sciences in Islamabad.
The festival was arranged and organized by the creative team of the Media Sciences department. The skills of students were exhibited in different fields of art and craft. Head of the campus, Khusro Pervaiz Khan inaugurated the event. The students displayed their creative and imaginative abilities via stalls, theatre performances, and short movies. The attendants highly appreciated the media department’s efforts, especially the HOD, Wajid Zulqarnain, and his constant efforts to make the media department stronger and more progressive than ever before.

Media Sciences students’ photography was also exhibited in the gallery, which became an instant hit for the crowds reaching the gallery. The exhibition had everything to make viewers amazed at the unfathomable depth of the photographs. From extra close-up shots of children, plants, and nature to the pictures of illusion, the photos on display have something for everyone. The students also presented different creative models depicting in-depth meaning.
Aqsa Khurshid, a student, said such events are really helpful for Media Sciences students. When asked if the universities were teaching Media Sciences at a practical level, she said, “Unfortunately, there are two types of universities in Pakistan for media and journalism-related subjects; they either focus on theoretical subjects or practical work, but the case is completely different in SZABIST where students are studying media theoretically as well as gaining the experience of practical work.”
SZABIST faculty member
A faculty member at SZABIST, Hafiz Atiq ur Rehman, said that these kinds of festivals help students to learn about many subjects on practical grounds. There should be more of these kinds of events to encourage students to showcase their talent. Visitors said that these events are also helpful in promoting local talent as well as cultural diversity.
