Mobile Phone Import Sees 66.08% Decline in 5 months

ISLAMABAD: The import of mobile phones experienced a decrease of 66.08 percent during the first five months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) against the corresponding period of last year.

According to the recent data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan has imported mobile phones worth US $290.570 million from July to November 2022 against the imports of US $856.730 million from July to November (2021-22), showing a decrease of 66.08 percent.

Year-wise decline in Import

On year-wise, the import also showed a decline of 69.57 percent during the month of November 2022, as compared to the same month of last year. In November 2022, it was recorded at $64.520 million as compared to the exports of $212.058 million in November 2021.

On monthly bases, in November 2022, the imports of mobile phones went down by 1.92 percent against the imports of US $65.780 million during October 2022, the data further maintained.

During the initial five months of the current fiscal year, the merchandise trade deficit experienced a decline of 30.14 percent. It was witnessed at $ 14,406 million this year as compared to the deficit of $ 20,621 million last year.

The PBS data further revealed that the exports from July to November 2022 were recorded at $11,932 million as compared to the exports of $12,362 million from July to November (2021-22), showing a decrease of 3.48 percent.
