NUST to Get Pakistan’s First-ever 5G Research Lab

ISLAMABAD: The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has started the development of Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab in partnership with the telecommunication industry, a research platform.

The lab will be used to study the use of 5G from a socio-economic perspective to address issues related to health, education, mobility, and businesses. As per the reports, the National University of Science and Technology will set up the innovation lab in collaboration with Huawei and Jazz Technologies. The research project will make academics able to study 5G’s use in augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR).

The Federal Secretary for Information Technology and Telecom, Mohsin Mushtaq, has stated that the lab would help us develop an environment to study the use of 5G in various fields. During the ceremony, the speakers stressed that 5G would accelerate the digitization of other industries, unlike 4G, which is only used for calls and the internet.

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VEON Group, Kaan Terzioglu, remarked that exploring avenues where 5G can be integrated in the future is important.
