ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in the ongoing Toshakhana case.

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb approved the bail during a hearing on Wednesday, requiring Bushra BiBi to post a bond of Rs1 million.

This ruling comes as a significant temporary relief for Bushra Bibi, who faces allegations related to the improper handling of state gifts.

During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb scrutinized the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) investigative officer regarding the need for further questioning of Bushra Bibi.

The officer confirmed that no additional investigations were warranted, prompting the judge to grant bail. The court drew comparisons to practices in other countries, noting instances where leaders, like the British Prime Minister, have taken gifts home, and highlighting how Azerbaijan displays gifts in museums.

In related developments, the indictment proceedings against both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, originally scheduled for the same day, were postponed due to security concerns. The hearing, initially set at Adiala Jail, was relocated to Islamabad’s Judicial Complex, but continued security issues led to a rescheduling of the indictment for October 26.
