ISLAMABAD: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar left Pakistan on Wednesday after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, expressing his gratitude for the warm reception he received.
In a message posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jaishankar thanked the Government of Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their “splendid hospitality” during the event.
“I thank the Government of Pakistan for the warm hospitality,” Jaishankar wrote, acknowledging the graciousness of Pakistan. He also extended his appreciation to Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the people of Pakistan for their reception during the summit.

Jaishankar attended a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the summit delegates, where he and Dar were seated together. The two leaders engaged in informal discussions during the meal.
During his speech at the summit, Jaishankar congratulated Pakistan on assuming the chairmanship of the SCO Heads of Council and pledged India’s full cooperation during Pakistan’s tenure as chair.
“Our meeting is taking place at a time when the world is facing significant challenges,” he said. He noted the ongoing global conflicts and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on developing countries.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, focusing on the economic pressures faced by SCO member states, including debt challenges, and the need to address critical issues such as terrorism, separatism, and extremism for regional stability. He called for greater mutual trust and honest dialogue between nations to navigate these shared hurdles.
“The relevance of tackling these challenges has increased in the current global context,” Jaishankar remarked. He stressed the need for regional unity to overcome the difficulties the organisation faces.
The Indian foreign minister urged SCO member states to adhere to the organisation’s charter and maximise the benefits of cooperation through enhanced trade, communication, and energy collaboration. He expressed optimism that such cooperation could unlock new avenues for growth in the region.
