ISTANBUL: A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in New York after the pilot collapsed mid-flight and died, the airline said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Turkish Airlines flight TK204, which had departed from Seattle, Washington, on Tuesday evening en route to Istanbul. The pilot, a 59-year-old who had been with the airline since 2007, suddenly collapsed during the flight.
The airline spokesman Yahya Ustun wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “The pilot of our Airbus 350… flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul collapsed during the flight.” “After an unsuccessful attempt to give first aid, the flight crew of another pilot and a co-pilot decided to make an emergency landing, but he died before landing.”
The pilot had worked for Turkish Airlines since 2007 and had passed a medical examination in March, which gave no indication of any health problems, Ustun wrote.
