ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday condemned in the strongest possible terms, Israel’s latest military aggression against Lebanon, massacring hundreds of civilians and declared the Israeli strikes a grave violation of international law and the UN Charter.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office described Israeli strikes as a dangerous escalation that further threatens peace in an already volatile region. The Foreign Office said that the act of aggression against the Republic of Lebanon is a grave violation of the UN Charter and international law. “It is a dangerous escalation that has further endangered peace and security in an already volatile region,” it added.

The Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and said that the country stands in solidarity with the Lebanese people in their right to live in peace and security.

Pakistan urged the international community to take urgent action to hold Israel accountable for “alarming adventurism” and acts of aggression and genocide.

“We call upon the international community to take urgent steps to hold Israel to account for its alarming adventurism in the region and its acts of aggression and genocide,” the Foreign Office added.

Lebanon experienced its deadliest day in decades as Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah locations, leading to widespread devastation. Lebanese authorities reported that the Israeli bombardments killed at least 564 people, and forced approximately 10,000 people to flee their homes in search of safety.

Earlier, the US State Department has advised American citizens in Lebanon to leave the country while commercial travel options are still available. An updated advisory from the State Department warned of the unpredictable nature of the ongoing conflict and the recent explosions throughout Lebanon, including in the capital, Beirut.

“Due to the unpredictable nature of the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel and recent explosions throughout Lebanon, including Beirut, the US Embassy urges US citizens to depart Lebanon while commercial options still remain available,” the advisory stated.
