JEDDAH. Saudi Arabia: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held the ninth meeting of its Women Consultative Council (WCC) at its Jeddah headquarters.
Dr Amina Al-Hajri, Director General of the OIC Department of Cultural Affairs, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the meeting’s context amid global challenges such as ongoing conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr. Al-Hajri emphasized the severe conditions faced by women across the Islamic world, including those in Palestine, Sudan, the Sahel and Lake Chad regions, and Afghanistan. The meeting aimed to address these issues and discuss the impact on women who are being denied education and opportunities.
The agenda included reviewing the implementation of previous ministerial resolutions and updates from the Women Development Organization (WDO). A key focus was the third edition of the OIC Women Achievement Award, themed “The Role of Women in Technology.”
Dr Al-Hajri expressed gratitude to Egypt for hosting the previous session and commended Turkiye for its ongoing support. She also acknowledged Saudi Arabia for its generous patronage of the OIC, underscoring the importance of collective efforts to advance women’s rights and empowerment in the member states.
