SANAA: UN officials have said that two Yemeni soldiers were killed in an ambush on a United Nations (UN) convoy in the eastern part of the country.

The UN’s International Office of Migration spokesperson said on Saturday that the security personnel were killed while escorting a UN convoy traveling from Seiyun to Marib. It said that no staff of the International Office of Migration (IOM) staff was hurt in the attack. The spokesperson did not issue further details.

However, a tribal leader and a UN official told the media on the condition of anonymity that the incident occurred near Al-Abr, Yemen’s eastern Hadramout province.  A top security official Lt. Gen. Saleh Mohammed Timis of Yemen’s Special Tasks Battalion confirmed the incident and said that the two killed persons were identified as Salem Mubarak Al-Bahri and Salem Saeed Qarwan. He added that the attackers have not been identified. It may be recalled that Yemen has seen an uptick in infighting between several armed groups in the recent past.
