ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to protecting the religious, social, political, and economic rights of its minorities.
In his message on the occasion of Minorities’ Day message being observed today (Sunday), President said that “Pakistan celebrates Minorities’ Day on August 11 every year to honor the invaluable contributions of our minorities to the nation’s socio-economic development.”
“Today, we renew our commitment to upholding the promise made by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on August 11, 1947, to safeguard the rights and religious freedoms of our minorities.”
The President emphasized that “minorities in Pakistan enjoy the full spectrum of political, economic, and social rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.” He highlighted that Islam advocates for the protection of minority rights and affirmed that Pakistan has taken significant steps to empower minorities politically, socially, and economically.
He noted that the government has implemented a 5% quota for minorities in public sector jobs and reserved seats in both houses of Parliament to enhance their participation in political and national development. Additionally, financial assistance, marriage grants, educational scholarships, and funds for the maintenance of worship places are being provided to support minority communities.
“Every Pakistani has the right to practice their faith freely, regardless of religion, caste, color, or creed,” President Zardari stated. He called on all segments of society, including religious scholars, minority representatives, and the media, to promote interfaith harmony, love, tolerance, brotherhood, and unity.
The President assured that Pakistan remains committed to safeguarding the rights of minorities and providing equal opportunities for their advancement. “I am confident that the minorities of Pakistan will continue to contribute positively to the country’s development. I extend my congratulations to them on this special day and wish them success in their future endeavors,” he concluded.
