LAHORE: The government of Punjab inaugurated the first school for the transgender community in New Garden Town, Lahore on Thursday.
Initially, a total of 50 students have been enrolled in the institute Along with education, this institute will equip the transgender community with skills like sewing, cooking, and makeup art for making an honorable livelihood. The government will also provide free books, uniforms, bags, and transport to the students.

School to open in two shifts
The institute will work in two shifts; in the morning they will be imparted education and in the evening shift, interested candidates will be taught technical skills.
During the last year, The Punjab School Education Department (SED) established three special institutes for the community in Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Punjab Minister for Education, Murad Raas said that the teachers appointed are also from the transgender community and two consultants will also be hired to understand their problems.
